Monumento
a Lord Cochrane inaugurado el 12 de febrero de 1873 por iniciativa
del intendente Francisco Echaurren. Trasladado a su ubicación actual, en
Avenida Brasil con Bellavista en el año 1895. Fue el primer
monumento erigido en Valparaíso. |

Los
primeros habitantes del Cerro Alegre, cuyos terrenos correspondían
a una de las mercedes otorgadas por Pedro de Valdivia a oficiales
que encabezaban las tropas en las diferentes campañas. Los
capitanes Juan Rodrigo de Guzmán y Nicolás Octavio
fueron los primeros habitantes del cerro. En 1672 ambos
donaron sus terrenos a la orden de los Agustinos. En 1724, el prior
Miguel Arrué vendió nuevamente los terrenos a un capitán
de ejército, Luis García Venegas. Colinda con el Cerro
Concepción. Se puede acceder subiendo por el Ascensor El Peral,
y tomando Calle Montealegre, así como también por el
Ascensor Reina Victoria y tomando calle Almirante Montt. |
